SpamMeNot

13 - Prevention of duplicate reports

It seems that the addon doesn't remember who it's reported in previous sessions. Mythic has noted on it's new form for reporting gold spam that they'd really would only like one report per name. I'd like to see the addon keep a list of previously reported names and not send new reports on those names, not just during a single session but for all sessions. You could then have the names on the list expire after a certain amount of time to keep the list from getting big. I have a feeling that all the duplicate reports are really hammering their spam ticket list.

Can't you make a log of those you have been reported or use the ignore list?

I think keeping duplicate reports down should be a priority. You know that other users are reporting too, duplicates of your own reports just make it that much more work for Mythic's staff.

Perhaps we could store the time they were reported and time-out old entries from the list.

While it's silly to maintain a list of all past names, there perhaps should be some persistence for a given name for a day or three to give Mythic time to act on the report.  In the wee hours especially, with several aggressive spammers active, SpamMeNot is reporting these same spammers anew every time you log back in.

On their end Mythic should be following LotRO's example and assigning reports of the same name on the same server to the same ticket #.  If they were to do this, then SpamMeNot would indeed not really need to keep any persistent record of past reportees.

From what they said Mythic wants one report per spammer rather than attempting to report several spammers at once. There shouldn't be any issue with duplicate reports since the smart way to code the appeal system for gold seller reports would be to maintain one report per name and maintain a count of the number of appeals rather than a seperate report for each.

I think this is a good idea. You really do not want to flood the admins with tons of duplicate reports form each user. Sure this is generate a list, but can you delete old entries? Maybe have a control panel show the entries and let users delete old ones, or move them to a whitelist. Or maybe an auto delete if entry is a week old. A centralized database would be even better, that would keep their tickets down to a minimum.

SpamMeNot will only report the person once per gaming session. Since the spammer's accounts are banned later on anyway, it doesn't seem like a good idea to maintain a list of banned user's names just in case you happen to disconnect and reconnect while they're still online.
